The aim of the Aviation Strategy presented by the European Commission in December is to shape the sector’s future in Europe and put its competitiveness back on track. Whether this goal can be achieved depends on a number of factors, including effective implementation with sufficient involvement of the entire aviation value chain.
A public hearing on “Delivering the EU Aviation Strategy – getting stakeholders on board” will be held to assess the strategy on Thursday, 21 April 2016, starting at 9 a.m. at the European Economic and Social Committee.
This hearing will bring together prominent figures in the field of aviation, including Commissioner Violeta Bulc, Frank Brenner (Director General Eurocontrol), Florian Guillermet (Executive Director SESAR Joint Undertaking) and Henrik Hololei (Director-General DG Mobility and Transport, European Commission).
The purpose of the event is to collect a wide range of expert and stakeholder views on the Aviation Strategy in order to enrich the EESC’s forthcoming opinion on this issue. The participants will attempt to answer the following questions:
1. Are the suggested political, regulatory, technological, and financial measures fit to achieve the objectives of the strategy?
2. Are all players in agreement with the objectives and the delivery methods proposed?
3. Are there any particular issues that stakeholders would like to be addressed?
4. Do they feel sufficiently empowered to put the strategy in practice?
